Finally Sewing Again!

It has been a few years. How did all that time slip by? I've been doing a little "grandmother's flower garden" paper piecing when I travel but that is it. 

One of my friends is expecting her first grandchild and wants to learn foundation paper piecing. I am so thankful to her. It has made me dig out my sewing area and brush up on the technique. 

Now I'm going to start up on Dear Jane again. Here is A-9.

Busy day. Bella is singing in the District Middle School festival and Marco is running the 55 m in the State Finals for indoor track.

Vermont Seasons with Sunbonnet Sue This quilt was entered as a challenge quilt for the Champlain Valley Quilt Guild. This quilt was an original design resulting from an absolute brainstorm. Originally, it was going to be a quick, simple traditional Sue block with Sue holding an item for each season (eg, a fall leaf for fall). However, I took a class on Accidental Landscapes with Karen Eckmeier this summer. The next thing I knew, Sue had Camel's Hump, a well-known Vermont landscape element, behind her. I also took a class with Nancy Eha on embellishing quilts with beads. Wouldn't you know...my quilt suddenly started sprouting beads everywhere. I had a lot of fun with this quilt!! Great practice for new techniques. Here are some pictures:

Zucchini Brownies with Chocolate and Nuts

You will not believe how moist and good these brownies are!! My kids like them better than regular chocolate brownies. Zucchini Brownies Preheat oven to 350°. ⅓ cup butter or margarine 1 Tbsp hot water 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla 1 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt ⅛ tsp baking soda ¾ cup zucchini, grated ½ cup chopped nuts ¼ (or more) cup chocolate chips In a saucepan, melt the butter, hot water, and brown sugar over low heat. Beat well. Remove from heat and beat in eggs and vanilla. Mix flour, powder, soda, and salt in separate bowl. Add to wet ingredients. Stir. Add remaining ingredients and blend well. Pour into 9x9 inch greased and floured pan. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean. I seem to be baking up a storm this week. Thank you Delvis (my next door neighbor) for the baking soda.
